Preparation saves lives
We believe that one of the best ways that people can prepare for emergencies in their everyday lives is to learn first aid. We offer a range of different ways to learn - from courses to mobile phone downloads.

 | | | Our first aiders also covered thousands of public events, treating people following accidents and illnesses. July was an especiallybusy time for the Red Cross in Scotland. We covered the Special Olympics in Glasgow as well as supporting the ambulance services at G8 events, including the Make Poverty History march in Edinburgh. | |

Saving baby Megan Alec McTaggart, a trained first aid volunteer, was at home in Glasgow when his neighbour Ian banged on the door. He was carrying his one-year-old daughter Megan. She was having a convulsion - then turned blue and stopped breathing.

Alec told Ian to call an ambulance, while he checked Megan’s circulation and breathing. He then began ventilating her using rescue breaths.
“It seemed like a lifetime, but after two minutes Megan came round and started to cry -the sweetest sound I have heard in a long time,”said Alec.
Megan, who was suffering froma fever, made a full recovery. | | | | |
