Support our work in Pakistan by buying Surya’s Laila rice.
Surya’s Rice for Life campaign will give the British Red Cross 20p from every 20kg pack of rice sold in October 2012, to support the organisation's lifesaving work in Pakistan.
Buying just one pack could fund
- five sachets of oral rehydration salts that could save the life of a child suffering from diarrhoea
- one simple immunisation to prevent life-threatening diseases like tuberculosis.
Help rebuild lives in Pakistan
Widespread flooding in Pakistan in 2010 and 2011 led to a rise in serious health problems like malaria and diarrhoea. The flooding put extra strain on already struggling health facilities like clinics and hospitals.
In 2012 the Pakistan Red Crescent, in partnership with the British Red Cross, is working to reach over 50,000 people with two basic health clinics and two mobile health clinics in the west of the country.
They are delivering basic health care services to vulnerable people, in particular women and children, with treatments for diarrhoea, malaria, tuberculosis and immunisation against childhood diseases.
In September 2011, the Rice for Life campaign helped the Red Cross support people in Pakistan with seeds and fertiliser to rebuild their livelihoods.
