RED CROSS RESPONSE CONTINUES TO UK FLOODING The British Red Cross has continued its response to flooding across the UK. In Doncaster four volunteers are providing emotional support at a rest centre for people unable to stay in their homes. The centre has been set-up by Doncaster Metropolitan Council at the Don Valley School of Performing Arts in Scawthorpe. Three Red Cross volunteers are also at the Adwick Leisure Centre. Volunteers will remain at the centres throughout the night. In Wakefield, two Red Cross volunteers are providing support to local people at St. Catherine’s Church which is being used as a drop-in and information centre by the local authority.
Lisa Bass, emergency response manager for the Red Cross in Yorkshire, said: “Our role in this situation is to look after people’s welfare and give them some emotional support. Whilst the emergency services deal with the response, we can spend the time with the people who have been distressed and upset by their experience."
Lisa added: “Our volunteers have been brilliant. One of the most impressive things has been how even people who’s homes have been threatened by the flooding are helping out.”

Notes to editors
The British Red Cross helps people in crisis, whoever and wherever they are. We are part of a global voluntary network, responding to conflicts, natural disasters and individual emergencies.
We enable vulnerable people in the UK and abroad to prepare for and withstand emergencies in their own communities. And when the crisis is over, we help them to recover and move on with their lives.
