Thanks to the generosity of the public, the British Red Cross has closed its Beslan Crisis Appeal just one day after it was launched.
"I have been astonished by the speed and scale of the generosity of the British public to the Beslan appeal. I don’t think I have ever witnessed in my fundraising career such a rapid response. Thanks to everyone who has given," says Mark Astarita, director of fundraising at the British Red Cross.
The money raised through the appeal, which was launched on 7 September, will help the Red Cross provide the survivors and their families with medical assistance in their homes, and longer-term psychological support to help them come to terms with the tragedy.
Mark adds: "If we identify any additional needs in Beslan in the future, then the Disaster Fund will enable us to respond promptly."
The Disaster Fund allows the British Red Cross to act without delay to any disaster, anywhere in the world. The Fund has been used to respond quickly to the earthquake in Iran, conflict in Sudan and most recently to the tragedy in Beslan. |
