5 November 2004

An auction in memory of ITN news reporter Terry Lloyd led by former colleagues and newsreaders Mark Austin and Katy Dereham, has raised £20,000 for the Red Cross Disaster Fund.

Terry Lloyd was killed in Basra, Iraq last year. Friends and family gathered for the auction at the village hall in Buckinghamshire on the 30 October, where Terry had celebrated his 40th birthday.

Terry Lloyd’s daughter Chelsey Lloyd, organised the fundraising event and the band that had played the night of Terry’s birthday reformed for this special evening.

The family chose the Disaster Fund in recognition of the Red Cross’ help in bringing Terry’s body back to the UK.

Mark Austin said: “This has been an occasion that none of us will ever forget. I have reported from many conflict zones around the world and have seen how important the work of the Red Cross is. I am very pleased to be part of this evening, and I know Terry would have been too.”
