Peer education volunteering

Three girls sit on the floor and play a game to learn how to be peer educators©InfoIt doesn’t take a genius to work out that young people often relate best to people their own age. And that’s why our peer educators are so successful, both in the classroom and in their everyday lives. Would you like to join us?

How would I be helping people?

You could have a real positive impact among people your own age. Your role might include:

  • training your peers in first aid
  • leading sessions on citizenship
  • teaching about HIV and humanitarian issues.

What skills and training do I need?

You should have good communication and team-working skills, as well as good presentation skills. We will provide you with the training you’ll need for this role.

How much time do I need to give?

You and your volunteering manager will discuss how much time you are able to give. Since our volunteering opportunities depend on local needs, some areas may need volunteers more regularly or for longer hours than others. If one of our services requires more time than you are able to give, we may have other volunteering opportunities that fit your schedule.

Will volunteering cost me anything?

We reimburse all reasonable out-of-pocket expenses when you volunteer for us. Volunteers are asked to keep expenses to a minimum and to supply receipts. Please feel free to discuss this with a volunteer advisor beforehand if you have any worries or questions.

How old do I need to be?

You need to be at least 15 years old and under the age of 26.

How do I apply?

If you'd like to get involved as a Red Cross peer educator, please contact the youth manager at a Red Cross office near you, stating which town and county you live in.
