The British Red Cross has been involved in emergency response for over a century. By the 1930s, the organisation was virtually synonymous with civil defence. During the Second World War, thousands of Red Cross volunteers were helping soldiers and civilians at home and abroad.
Today, we have partnerships with local authorities and the emergency services. Our volunteers help out after major incidents, such as floods and mass-evacuations, and more personal emergencies, like transport accidents and house fires.
