Supporting the elderly after the tsunami
| No grandmother expects to lose one grandchild, let alone eight, but this is the tragedy that befell 75-year-old Ahlimah when the tsunami struck Indonesia.

| When the wave hit, she was out feeding her chickens before fleeing to the hills where she stayed for five days with no food before she found her daughter.
Ahlimah now lives in a temporary home in Pulo Aceh and is using a cash grant from the British Red Cross to keep chickens.
“I keep the chickens here at my house because I am old and can’t go far from here,” she said. “Since the tsunami I live the way I can, God permitting, and am thankful to the Red Cross. I will run the chicken farm and hope that I will get benefits from it.”
