Goats and chickens

Widow Zainabah Ibrahim was dragged through the water when the tsunami struck while she was at home in Paroy. She is lucky to be alive as the force of the wave demolished her house.

She vividly recalled: “I heard an explosion like a bomb, trees were demolished and my house and garden were swept away along with my chickens and ducks.

"I thought the world was going to end but I saw the sky so I knew it hadn’t.” With help from the British Red Cross, the 65-year-old has bought ten goats to sell for meat and is also keeping chickens again.

“Life is getting better”, she said and praising the Red Cross added: “My home and livelihood is beautiful but the one who has helped give me this is more beautiful.”
