Test your knowledge: floods and flooding

Did you know that just six inches of fast-flowing water can knock you over and two feet will float a car? Floods suck manhole covers off the road, uproot paving stones and can carry huge objects.

Summer 2007 saw the worst flooding to hit the UK in over 60 years. Families were evacuated from their homes and fresh food was in short supply as lorries were unable to make deliveries. After the floods, drinking water shortages for more than 200,000 people caused panic buying of bottled water.
