Road safety information

Each year, 2,500 people are killed on Britain’s roads. Another 28,500 are seriously injured and many of these casualties are children. Distressingly, these incidents aren’t completely random – young people in deprived areas are four times more likely to be seriously injured than those living in affluent areas.Photo of a road safety accident. The Red Cross is tackling this problem by taking road safety education directly to young people in poorer areas who are more likely to witness or be involved in a road accident. Our trained peer educators give 12-18 year olds the skills, confidence and encouragement to help save lives and reduce injuries in their own communities.
