Civilians and Conflict Month was a media campaign in October 2008 to highlight our international tracing and message and refugee services in the UK, as well as overseas projects helping people recover from conflicts, like the child advocacy and rehabilitation programme in Sierra Leone.
Party debates and online game | |
| To mark Civilians and Conflict Month, we launched an innovative online game, Traces of Hope, which gave players the chance to help a young Ugandan boy, Joseph, search for his mother. | | |  | |
| Although Joseph is a fictional character, his story is based on events that have happened to any number of people in conflicts around the world.
In autumn 2008, we also hosted debates at each of the three main political party conferences on the theme ‘forced to flee’. Panels made up of MPs, journalists and Red Cross experts discussed why people flee their countries and seek sanctuary in the UK, as well as the difficulties they face when they arrive.
