First aid at Body Worlds

Controversial anatomist Dr Gunther von Hagens recently brought his latest  Body Worlds exhibition – The Mirror of Time – to the UK, and the British Red Cross was the main charity partner for the event.

The exhibition, which ran at London’s O2 Arena from October 2008 to August 2009, saw the unveiling of Dr von Hagens' latest exhibit: a CPR (cardio-pulmonary resuscitation) couple. The new exhibit – created exclusively for the British Red Cross – features one man giving chest compressions to another.

Gunther believes everyone should learn how to save a life. The new exhibit, which demonstrates that the heart is just a pump and shows how chest compressions work, was designed to help de-mystify the science of first aid and encourage more people to get involved.

First aid training for young people

During the exhibition, the Red Cross had youth peer educators at Body Worlds to lead hands-on demonstrations of first aid skills for young people. They talked to students about risky behaviour that could lead to accidents and demonstrated how to deal with different accident scenarios.

Would you like to know more about teaching first aid skills to others? The Red Cross has a specially designed kit so educators can teach life-saving first aid skills to young people. The Life. Live it. first aid kit can even be used by teachers with no previous first aid experience.
