Tesco Charity of the Year partnership

The British Red Cross’ Charity of the Year partnership with Tesco in 2007 raised over £4.6 million for British Red Cross services in the UK – the largest amount raised through a single corporate partnership for a charity in just one year, and Tesco’s most successful Charity of the Year partnership ever.Tesco staff holding collection boxes outside a Tesco store

Tesco-funded services

Under the partnership banner of ‘Crisis care in your neighbourhood’, the money raised through the partnership is being spent on three main services across the UK:

  • first aid training
  • care in the home
  • medical equipment

The money collected by each Tesco store, head office, customer service or distribution centre is being spent by the Red Cross within the county it was raised.

How the money was raised

The British Red Cross was the focus for staff fundraising throughout the year and the total they raised benefited from a further 20 per cent ‘top up’ from the Tesco Charity Trust.

Money was also raised from donations on products sold in store, collection tins at tills, recycling schemes, Clubcard mailings and a Christmas charity single recorded by Katie Melua and the late Eva Cassidy.
