More than 4,000 people died from the largest cholera outbreak Zimbabwe had ever seen. Thousands more were affected in other countries in the region, including South Africa, Mozambique and Angola.

Cholera is contracted by drinking water or eating food contaminated with the bacteria vibrio cholerae, or through contact with flies. In addition to the cholera crisis, millions of people in Zimbabwe struggled to get enough food.

These photos show some of the people who needed our help.
