Better use of more income
Raising money The generosity of Red Cross supporters meant that 2006 was a very successful year. While we raised less for emergencies than in the previous year because there were fewer major disasters our general funds income grew significantly. More people now support us regularly as donors than ever before.
Early in the year, our Africa Food Crisis Appeal raised £1.04 million, which was spent entirely on providing emergency relief to the most vulnerable in the affected countries. Following the Indonesia earthquake in May, we raised £968,000.
In July, when fighting broke out across the Lebanon, we acted swiftly. Despite the difficulties of raising money for conflict situations, our Middle East Crisis Appeal succeeded in raising £1.4 million to help thousands of people left in desperate need of help.
Regular support Red Cross appeals make an immeasurable difference to those affected by disasters across the world, but that is only part of the story. Our ability to continue helping people in crisis day on day, year after year depends on the strength of our regular, long-term support.
