Life-saving help

Our first aiders were also ready to help at more than 10,000 public events throughout the UK – including the Great North Run in Tyneside, where 500 volunteers helped nearly 1,000 casualties in a single day.

And Red Cross training makes a life-saving difference. In Sussex, volunteer Jill Bartlett used a defibrillator to bring a man back to life after he collapsed and stopped breathing. She said: “It’s an amazing thing to save someone’s life, but I couldn’t have done it without the help of the Red Cross.”

We also established a unique ‘inclusive’ first aid programme, specially designed to include groups or individuals with disabilities. Over the next three years, we will work in partnership with other organisations to make first aid skills accessible to all.

When I've used first aid, it's been in situations where other people just didn't know what to do
