Promoting better health

Overseas, our health programmes brought vital support to individuals and communities around the world. We have also stepped up our efforts to tackle the HIV pandemic and are investing £1 million a year in fighting the disease.

Many of the projects we support are based in Africa, which has borne the brunt of the HIV catastrophe. In Zimbabwe, for example, the Red Cross is providing food and hygiene packs to hundreds of children who have been orphaned by the disease.

I believe I can survive this disease if I don't keep worrying about it. The Red Cross has been a great support.

And in India, which now has the world’s largest HIV population, we are supporting the Indian Red Cross in educating young people about the disease and how it can be prevented.
