Ready in the UK

Here in the UK, we were ready to respond round the clock at hundreds of incidents across the country. In August, we offered support when thousands of passengers were stranded at Heathrow and Glasgow airports following a major security alert. And when severe flooding in the Highlands left scores of people stranded in November, our volunteers spent hours rescuing those cut off by the weather.

For those caught up in crisis, our unique fire and emergency support service made a real difference. Thousands of people, including evacuees from a major blaze at a Sussex fireworks factory and the victims of a Belfast arson attack, counted on our support. Recognising our value, fire services throughout England have written us into their emergency plans.

And we were there for British nationals caught up in disasters or terrorism overseas. Building on our partnership with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, our volunteers joined rapid deployment teams to respond to eight major incidents across the world – including bomb attacks in Egypt and Turkey – offering practical help and emotional support to those affected.
