Statement on Marmot review into health inequalities
British Red Cross chief executive Mike Adamson said: “Today’s Marmot review into health inequalities in the UK reports an increasing disparity of health outcomes which should be of concern to us all.
“At the British Red Cross, we see some of the most vulnerable people falling through the gaps in health and social care services and people disconnected from their local communities and support.
“In our new 10-year strategy, we are committed to responding to these health inequalities. We want to focus our resources in the UK on the most disadvantaged people, in the most deprived areas of the country, where the need is greatest. What is clear from the Marmot review is that we all need to do better to connect to the areas of greatest need and to understand people’s priorities, so that we can work out a new approach together.
“The experience of health inequality intersects across the breadth of our work. We see how important it is that people are connected to their communities, whether they are returning home from hospital, recovering from an emergency or building a new life here in the UK. We have seen the positive impact when people are given access to the care and support they need.”
