What kind of equipment can I borrow?

We provide short-term loans of wheelchairs and other equipment. These are designed to help you get around and improve your comfort.

The types of mobility aids you can borrow include:

    • Wheelchairs
    • Crutches
    • Backrests
    • Bath seat
    • Walking sticks and frames
    • Commodes
    • Bedpans
    • Urinals.

Will it cost me anything to hire a wheelchair or other equipment?

We request donations to help us provide the service. The service is run by our volunteers. A refundable deposit may also be required for some items.

Why can't I find this service in my area?

Wheelchairs and mobility aids are supplied by local British Red Cross offices in most places apart from London. Our office for Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex is the closest to London that supplies wheelchairs and mobility aids.

Contact the Bedfordshire, Hertfordshire and Essex office with your request. Each enquiry will be dealt with on a case-by-case basis. Unfortunately we cannot guarantee delivery of the service in London.

Where can I find more information about mobility aids?

You can buy equipment on our online shop.

You can find more information in our blog: Who pays for your wheelchair?
