Wheelchair delivery

Find out about British Red Cross wheelchair delivery, how it works and what to expect

We can usually deliver your wheelchair on the next weekday if you order before midday.

We can’t guarantee next weekday delivery and deliveries can be different in certain regions – see below for more information.

What to expect from your wheelchair delivery

  • You will get an email or text on the morning of your delivery with an estimated arrival time.
  • The courier will deliver it to your door or a safe place if selected. The courier will not be able to come into your home.
  • Check the wheelchair when you get it and let us know if you see anything wrong with it.
  • Your wheelchair will come in a box sized 85 x 60 x 70 cm (about the size of a washing machine). This box can be collapsed or flat-packed, as shown in the video below.
  • Keep this box because you will need it to return your wheelchair. We may need to charge you if you don’t return it in the box.

Wheelchair delivery by region

Hampshire, Northern Ireland, Norfolk and Waveney

Delivery times are subject to availability. We work with the NHS to provide wheelchairs in these areas. This means that they are free of hire charges, though there is a £30 delivery charge.

If you live in one of these areas, you can book as normal. You will get a confirmation email then you have a choice to collect your wheelchair locally or get it delivered on another date.

Due to changes in service, residents of the Northern and Southern Trusts in Northern Ireland can only book equipment via telephone.

A range of other equipment may also be available in your location. Please contact your local office to find out more.

Scottish Islands and Highlands, Isles of Scilly

Deliveries to Scottish Islands and Highlands, and Isles of Scilly may have a different price. The delivery period is two days rather than one. If you live in these areas, book over the phone not online.

Frequently asked questions

What should I do if my equipment arrives damaged?

All of our wheelchairs are serviced between use and thoroughly checked. We expect they will arrive to you in great condition. However, we recommend you check the wheelchair when it gets to you to make sure there has been no damage in transit. If you have any issues, please contact us as soon as possible and we will work to resolve the problem. Call 0300 456 1914 for help.

Do you offer weekend deliveries?

We do not offer weekend deliveries. Our delivery service operates Monday to Friday. Please check our opening times for any changes around bank holidays.

Do I keep the delivery box?

Yes. Please store the box in a safe place for the duration of your hire, as you will need it to return the equipment at the end of the hire period. For easier storage, the box can be flat-packed. We have a step-by-step video for this on our wheelchair delivery page. Please note that loss or damage to the box may result in additional charges.
