Our work with the Garfield Weston Foundation

An old woman, Veronica, sitting on a sofa with a walking stick nearby, getting support from a British Red Cross worker in her own home.

The Garfield Weston Foundation (GWF) supports our work across the UK.

A donation of £325,000 from the GWF helped to fund our independent living services in Leicestershire and Gateshead.

In Leicestershire, 538 people now get help from our First Call - Support at Home programme.

This scheme allows older and vulnerable people to remain at home. It cuts down on hospital admissions and encourages community support.

A similar scheme has also been launched at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Gateshead. This is in partnership with the Gateshead NHS Health Foundation Trust and HelpForce.
