Christmas volunteering with the British Red Cross
Volunteer at Christmas and help us to make a huge difference to someone’s life.
The festive season is a time of joy, generosity and togetherness, but for many it can also be a time of loneliness, hardship and uncertainty.
By volunteering at Christmas with the British Red Cross, you can help bring comfort and support to those who need it most.
Whether it's lending a hand at a local event, delivering essentials to vulnerable people or offering a friendly chat when someone needs it most, your time and compassion can make a real impact.
Volunteering at Christmas, during the holidays and throughout the year is a meaningful way to give back, connect with your community, meet new people and learn new skills to take into the new year.
The British Red Cross offers a range of volunteering roles to suit different skills and schedules, so whatever your interests there's a way for you to help.
Can I volunteer at Christmas with the British Red Cross?
Our volunteers make a big difference during the festive period. The need for kindness and connection doesn’t stop for Christmas and neither do we.
We don’t offer volunteering roles that are exclusive to Christmas, but many of our volunteers support their communities non-stop around the year.
If you’d like to start volunteering by Christmas, we recommend applying as early as possible. But remember, the spirit of giving doesn’t end with the festive season. Whenever you start, you’ll be making a real difference to people who need support.
Whether you're helping someone get home safely from hospital, offering emotional support through our community services or assisting behind the scenes, your contribution can make all the difference.

Our volunteers bring warmth and companionship to those who feel isolated, helping people to celebrate with dignity and a sense of belonging. As services get stretched throughout winter, our volunteers help to make sure that no one is left behind.

“We were once called out on Christmas eve to a house fire. It was a family of five and they lost everything, including all of their presents.
“At the end when it was all resolved, the dad came running over to me and said, ‘I can’t give you a hug, can I?’ and I replied ‘Yes you can!’”
