Support people in your community during times of crisis. Join the British Red Cross as an emergency volunteer today.

Why volunteer in emergency response?

Imagine helping someone during one of the most challenging times in their lives.

As an emergency response volunteer, you’ll work with other organisations in the community providing emotional support and essentials to whoever needs our help.

Whether it’s a neighbourhood hit by flooding, a fire in someone’s home or a large-scale disaster across the nation, you will have an immediate and lasting impact on those affected.

Join us today and help make a difference.

How you can help

Emergency response is varied and no two days are the same. Depending where in the UK you’re based, you might:

  • Respond to local emergencies.
Provide on-the-ground support to people in need during a crisis.
  • Provide emotional and practical help.
Offer comfort to those in distress and hand out essentials like food, water and clothing.
  • Work with other support services.
Ensure that people receive the support and information they need.

Who can apply?

You’ll get all the training you need to succeed and make a difference, but we’re also looking for someone who is:

  • Over 18 - ready to make a difference
  • Calm under pressure - able to communicate effectively during a crisis.
  • Responsive - ready to jump in when needed as part of a volunteer rota.
  • Committed - willing to attend regular group nights and keep up with training.

Specific requirements and duties may vary depending on your role and location. See what roles are available to find out more.
