British Red Cross statement on NHS app announcement
Responding to the NHS App announcement, Mubeen Bhutta, British Red Cross Director of Policy, Research and Advocacy, said:
“The range of services that will be available via the NHS App will hopefully make healthcare more accessible and easier to navigate, but some people still face barriers to getting online. Digital access isn’t a reality for everyone. Too many people – particularly those on low incomes, older people and those with certain disabilities – could be left behind.
“Our teams regularly meet people who struggle to access GP appointments or urgent support simply because they don’t have internet, a smartphone or the skills to use them. Without inclusive options alongside digital tools and digital literacy support, some of the most vulnerable risk missing out on the care they need.
“We look forward to working with government to make sure that no one is excluded from a modern and accessible NHS.”
