Lewis Hamilton visits Red Cross and Red Crescent teams supporting people in Gaza
23 January 2025
The seven-time Formula 1 World Champion met with staff and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to provide aid and medical assistance to people affected by the crisis in Gaza.
In December 2025, Lewis Hamilton visited Jordan on a trip organised by the British Red Cross where he witnessed firsthand how the Jordan Red Crescent Society and Palestine Red Crescent Society have been preparing to bring more lifesaving aid into Gaza and treating medical evacuees.
Humanitarian access into and within Gaza remains limited, challenging and not nearly enough to meet the vast scale of need.
Commenting on his visit, Lewis said:
“The Red Cross and the Red Crescent have been supporting people affected by conflict in Gaza every single day for more than two years. Being here in Jordan and seeing that work up close has been deeply moving.
“I’ve seen how every box and every parcel is prepared with care, with teams working around the clock to deliver aid to those who need it most. But it’s painfully clear this trickle of aid is not nearly enough. The people of Gaza desperately need a sustained, unimpeded flow of lifesaving support, as well as critical medical care.”
During the visit, Lewis met with Omar, a Palestine Red Crescent Society emergency response volunteer. Omar described receiving the phone call to rescue five-year-old Hind Rajab from a car in Gaza. Hind and the two Palestine Red Crescent Society paramedics who tried to rescue her were tragically killed.
Over the course of the conflict, 31 Palestine Red Crescent Society members have been killed while on duty.
Lewis also visited the Jordan Red Crescent Society hospital where children and their families have been evacuated from Gaza for medical treatment. Reflecting on the stories he heard from medical staff, Lewis said:
“At the hospital, I had the privilege of meeting the Jordan Red Crescent Society medical teams supporting evacuees from Gaza. Their dedication and the stories of those they care for are powerful reminders of why the protection of civilians, aid workers and medical staff is so essential.”
Lewis made a generous donation to the British Red Cross crisis appeal, which continues to support the life-saving emergency response work of the Palestine Red Crescent Society and the ICRC in Gaza.
The charity has been calling for an immediate scale-up of aid supplies and appropriate shelter to help people in Gaza survive the winter months.
Béatrice Butsana-Sita, British Red Cross, Chief Executive Officer said:
“We’re deeply grateful to Lewis Hamilton for his support of the British Red Cross. Lewis has taken the time to learn about our humanitarian efforts to help people affected by the conflict in Gaza and how we’re delivering life-saving emergency care and aid to those who need it most.
“This winter, life is getting even harder for people in Gaza, with communities flooded and diseases rapidly spreading. We’re continuing to call for a huge scale-up of aid, including food, medical supplies and shelter. We welcome any support people can give to enable us to continue our vital work for as long as it’s needed.
“The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will continue to help everyone affected by this conflict across the region in the weeks, months and years ahead.”
