This plantswoman’s two-acre tranquil garden provides interest throughout the seasons, with distinct areas that enable plants from different ecological conditions to thrive, including a small pond to encourage wildlife.

Autumn tones are displayed in abundance by the mature trees and shrubs within and bordering the garden.

The Middle Garden peaks in late summer with swaying grasses, bright dahlias and pollinator friendly asters; while pergolas provide shady seating areas, surrounded by climbers.

Courtyard gardens contain seasonal container displays and borders, filled with treasures to delight plant lovers.

Bates Green Garden is a tranquil setting, surrounded by grazed pastures with stunning views of the South Downs.

The six-acre conservation meadow adjoining the garden contains a wealth of flora and fauna, featuring managed mown paths and seating for visitors.

Public transport: Three miles from nearest bus stops at Hailsham or Wilmington and train stations at Polegate or Berwick.

By car: From the A22, Hailsham Bypass, take Arlington Road heading west. Or, from the A27 at Wilmington, take Thornwell Road heading north. Car parking is along the road verge adjacent to the entrance.
