Unboxing your wheelchair video transcript

Unboxing your wheelchair

Hello and welcome to this short demonstration on how to unbox your wheelchair.

We recommend that you ask someone to help you with this task.

You may also need to have a 10 mm spanner handy.

Make sure the box is the right way up. You will see the word ‘top’ on the top of the box.

First you need to turn the locks anticlockwise to unlock the box.

Once unlocked, the box will be ready to open. Remove the packaging from around the wheelchair.

Release the brakes on the wheels.

Please take care as you roll the wheelchair out of the box and towards you.

Self-propelled 18” wheelchair

If you have ordered a self-propelled 18-inch wheelchair, you will need to remove it from the box in a different way.

Place the box lengthways, open from above and lift the chair out of the box.

Lift the wheelchair using the frame not the armrests.

All other wheelchair sizes should be unpacked as previously demonstrated.

Stand behind the wheelchair and lift the handlebars.

Listen out for a click. This means they are secure.

To open the chair, pull the armrests apart. Do not place your fingers between the seat and the frame.

Push down on both sides of the seat to fully open the wheelchair.

Next, move to the front of the wheelchair.

Swing both foot plates forward so they click into position and open.

Make sure that the bases of the side panels are in position.

To readjust, twist the lock forward and lift the side panel.

Once in position, make sure the lock is pointing backwards to secure the side panel.

If you need to attach a stump support or leg elevator, you will first need to remove the foot plate: remove the safety pin, push back the latch.

Your chair may come with a red clip, or a metal pin.

Move the foot plate to the side and lift to remove.

To attach your accessory, position over the fixture points and move into place.

Once secured reinsert the safety pin.

To incline the leg elevator, push the silver latch and lift.

To extend or shorten a leg elevator, these can be adjusted with a 10mm spanner.

Please preserve all protective packaging.

Should you wish to flat pack your box, please use the following process.

Pull up the inside base of the box using the cutout hand hold.

Push the perpendicular sides down before pushing the piece with the cutout hand hold back down.

Fold in the remaining sides to close the box, and keep one hand on the top as you carefully turn the box over so that this side is now facing the ground.

Open and unfold from the top, and then do the same with the other end.

The box should now be flat and ready for easier storage.
