Hire a wheelchair
Hire a wheelchair from the British Red Cross for short-term use.
In some locations we are operating a delivery only service. To find out the services available in your area contact your nearest Mobility Aids Service.
We are working in partnership with the NHS by providing wheelchairs to help people leave hospital and recover in the comfort of their own homes. To make a booking or to arrange a return, please call 0300 456 1914.
Our wheelchair service offers:
- wheelchairs in a range of types and sizes for anyone over the age of 5 years old
- wheelchair accessories
- locations across the UK
- the ability to book and pay online
- use of a wheelchair from 2 to 20 weeks
How much it costs
Wheelchair and accessories
Our wheelchairs cost £15 per week to hire.
The charge for accessories is £3 per week.
There is an initial minimum hire period of 2 weeks and you can extend your booking up to a maximum of 20 weeks.
We offer assistance and support to those who may not be able to meet the financial costs, to speak to us about this call 0300 456 1914.
Delivery and collection
Where possible we offer delivery and collection for people who may not be able to get to our local services.
The charge is £10 for delivery and £10 for collection.
One I can push myself
Self-propelled chairs vary in weight and size:
- Weight is up to 18.5 kg
- Width between 53.5 cm and 76.5 cm
- Length is between 99 cm and 104 cm
- Height is 95.5 cm
One someone else can push (transit)
Transit chairs vary in weight and size:
- Weight is up to 16.8 kg
- Width between 53.5 cm and 71.5 cm
- Length between 84 cm and 109.5 cm
- Height is 95.5 cm

Find your local Mobility Aids Service
Contact your nearest Mobility Aids Service to arrange to return your wheelchair.
It's important that you return your wheelchair on the date agreed so we can offer it to someone else who might need it.
