Volunteer in emergencies

You'll be there to help when someone needs it most.

We have two roles for you to choose from:

1. Emergency response volunteer

From domestic fires and floods, to large-scale emergencies, our highly trained emergency response teams are there to help when crisis strikes.

2. Community reserve volunteer (registrations currently paused)

This role is ideal if you would like to help during an emergency, but can't volunteer all year round. We now have more than 80,000 CRVs and registrations are paused. Please keep checking back.

Emergency response volunteer

As an emergency response volunteer, you’ll work alongside the emergency services to provide practical and emotional support to help people when they need it most.

We will give you training so you can support people through emergencies, including at rest centres, or during severe weather.

You could also provide practical and emotional help to people following a fire, evacuation, transport accident or flood.

You’ll learn new skills, gain lots of valuable experience and be part of a close-knit team dedicated to helping people get the support they need in a crisis, and recover afterwards.

What you can expect

You don’t need any experience to be an emergency response volunteer. We’ll give you all the training and protective clothing you need to do your role.

You will be part of an on-call rota, working alongside other organisations and local authorities.

You need to be willing to respond to a call-out at unsocial hours.
